Work Experience
For the past several years, I have worked as a systems designer/architect at the Knowledge Media Laboratory of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The main focus of my work there has been to explore and create distinct models using emerging media and technologies that help institutions document, share, and reflect on their efforts in transforming teaching and learning. Developing ways for teachers and students to create engaging knowledge representations on the Web has been helping communities of practice to make their experiences public. My background is in Computer Science and my interests include design, open source/content/spaces, and collaborative systems.
This year I had my internship with the KML as well while pursuing a Master's degree in Learning, Design & Technology at Stanford University. At the Carnegie Foundation, I have worked on a range of educational technology projects including the Knowledge Exchange Exhibition Presentation (KEEP) Toolkit, Teaching & Learning Commons, and the Carnegie Workspace. I have also attended and presented at several academic conferences and conducted numerous workshops for teachers and students. Please, read my blog for more details about that.
In addition, I posses a B.S. in Computer Science from UC Santa Cruz, and retain several years of professional experience as a web designer, software engineer, and a project manager. I began my career with participating in a research project at the Film and Digital Media department, where I worked on a collaborative authoring environment "Subtract The Sky" used by digital artists for creation and navigation of interactive graphs. The project was released during an expo at Sorbonne University as well as Dutch Electronic Arts Festival. I also served as a consultant for several companies and agencies including National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) where I closely worked with marine biologists on assessing the impact of human activities on endangered species. I continue to offer services to various companies and organizations as a freelance web designer/developer and an educational technology consultant.
