| This course
introduced the use of interactive media in education. We examined
familiar examples of interactive media such as educational games
and simulations, interactive reference works, and online courses
and games. We focused on educational considerations with passing
attention to cost, technical refinement, fun and visual appeal. |
Assignment
I worked with a group of four other students to review and
redesign two of ICT's online courses for teachers.
-
We
began with a design review
in which we identified the products educational
pros and cons in comparison to the best available alternatives
and identified key features that account for its learning
effects.
-
Next,
we planned and carried out learner
studies of
teachers taking these classes. We studied novice users,
interviewed current participants, and surveyed teachers
who had completed these courses.
-
Our
final project was a principled
redesign to improve the educational value
of these online course. We outline both an incremental
redesign for the next version of the product and a radical
redesign that would lead to better learning.
