This
course introduced the concepts underlying the design of human-computer
interaction, including usability and affordances, direct manipulation,
systematic design methods, user conceptual models and interface
metaphors, design languages and genres, human cognitive and
physical ergonomics, information and interactivity structures,
design tools and environments. Professor Winograd structured
this course around a set of case studies, in which notable interface
designs and/or projects were analyzed to illustrate underlying
principles. Our assignments included a usability analysis, critiques
of existing products and designs, and explorations of new technologies.
I also worked with a group to create an interface design for
children.
