Philosophy
While my design process is flexible and shifts with each project and each team, there are general principles I adhere to as a designer.

Focus on the needs and interests of the learner
Remember the importance of empathy and humility in effective designers
Take time to research what already exists
Keep designs simple and consistent
Rely on iteration and user testing to inform your design
Reflect on your product and process in order to continue to learn and grow

Process
1 . Define the learning problem and the project goals

  • What are the project goals?
  • What are the contraints such as time and budget?
  • What are the learning goals?

2. Research

  • Who is the audience? Interviews and observations
  • What is already known? Literature review and best practices research

3. Initial design

  • Brainstorm
  • Concept development
  • Storyboard
  • Project outline

4. Iterative design

  • Build prototypes
  • User test for learning and usability
  • Redesign and refine

5. Final prototype

  • Final user testing
  • Build the final prototype

6. Assessment and reflection

  • What does our audience learn from our product or design?
  • Did we meet our goals?
  • Was our process effective and efficient?
  • What did I learn as an educator, a designer and a technologist?
