A portable hand held device that helps novice museum visitors break down barriers that prohibit them from having meaningful experiences with works of art. Through visual literacy and guided-seeing activities the visitor is empowered with the knowledge and tools needed to engage with art.

  • While in front of the artwork visitors are able to learn about and experience the work simultaneously.
  • Visitors are introduced to art terms which help build a basis for further development.
  • Content is centered around using the work as an example of art concepts.
  • Content strives to present multiple interpretations of the work and to promote the visitor’s interpretation.
  • Device presents an unassuming and nurturing learning environment.

The prototype was built using a tablet PC as its form factor. View’s multimedia application was developed in Macromedia Director. Obtaining View’s position in relationship to the art work was accomplished using Luida’s Interactive Whiteboard technology - eBeam, in projection mode with the pen attached to the back of the device.
