To build our understanding of learning in art museums, we examined the issue from the perspective of the novice visitors, the museum, and art educators.

Designed a conceptual framework for creating interpretive materials for novice visitors and created thirteen experimental label and gallery guides based on framework. We liked the welcoming tone of the materials created and there engagement with art works through touching tables and children backpacks.

An exhibit focusing on work from postwar period to present day. The art was presented thematically instead of chronologically or biographically. Each of the six groupings, or “Points of Departure emphasized a particular artistic approach. We liked that the exhibit was created with educators and curators working together and brought technology into the gallery through hand held devices and smart table kiosks.

An exhibit that presented art work through the theme of visitor’s questions. We liked the idea of empowering the visitor, of putting learning goals first, and the acknowledgement of multiple interpretations.
