What is it?

LiveMath is a powerful 2 & 3-D grapher, simulator, and problem solver.

  • This program does calculation, including calculus.  It also allows you to enter different types of problems and it shows you EVERY step it goes through to get the answer.  For example, when adding fractions, it first finds the least common denominator, then multiplies the fractions, etc.  All steps appear on the page.  You can change something in the original problem and all steps to solve it are redone to solve the new problem.  It also allows you to save these “problems” that you have made up.  Imagine students creating their own problems on this and then collaborating with other students explaining how the answer is computed.
  • You can also do graphing of multiple equations, inequalities, etc.  Plus it has 3D graphing, and curve fitting. You see the equation and the graph at the same time, and manipulating the equation results in the graph changing.
  • It includes animation so you can
    • make simulations (for example, finding the limit of a function as x->c, there are lines on the graph that move toward c from both ends)
    • visualize 3D by spinning and tilting the axes.
