Game Review: Sly Cooper 3

I like the way it starts. It doesn't quite give you the story in the very beggining you are immersed into the play you've got to sneak to the Cooper Vault which is being barracaded by Dr. M. The game has a different feel because your objective is not to be seen. So you are often figuring out stealthy ways to get to places, hiding, and running away. In fact your defensive moves cost too much to use. It takes 3 or 4 strikes to defeat an enemy sometimes and you get hammered in the process.

Positive features:

  • Great story. The game has beautiful graphics and a tight story which is presented in widescreen moview format. Sly3 uses the story to provide clues to solve puzzles and complete missions.

  • Tutorial is after the first mini-level and interwoven at points in the story so you don't get bored or overwhelmed learning something you may not use for several levels.

  • The life meter is a pie if you fail it pops you back to the last place you left off. Much better than restarting a level and counting "lives" Failure has a low cost which is very convenient for learning

  • Cool stealth mechanics. Sly can sneak behind guards and steal their money and execute special attacks. He can climb ropes and poles and sneak under desks. Other games like Splinter cell and Thief use it.

  • Zoom and photos. With the binoucam I can see far distances and take photos

The down side is you can't forward through the story. Sometimes you are in a "do" mood and the story is holding you into a "listen" mode. I wish there was a nice way to pace this into the play so you can prepare yourself to listen. So far the clips aren't very long. But other reviews have said they can be just as long as the gameplay.
