Curriculum Design Ideology

Ideology describes the beliefs that influence how you develop learning curriculum. My belief is that students are unique. A good curriculum incorporates both their skils and values into the design of learning. Furthermore, the experience of that leanring, should immerse them into the reality of that subject. Three examples:
  1. Teaching game design. Students learning game design should feel like they are working in a design studio performing roles that stretch their gifts and abilities.

  2. Learning foreign languages. A Chinese curriculum should allow students to communicate and interact in a way that mimics real settings and situations in which they would use Chinese. They should chat online, navigate real world places, speak, hear and see chinese.

  3. Designing games. Video games have curriculums. If we are trying to teach a player how to use a hero's special move, we should give the player a real situation in which he would use the move. And provide a variety of feedback to support different types of learners.

In summary, my curriculum design ideology includes immersive, authentic experiences that prepare learners for real experiences. Learning should mimic real experience.
