Curriculum Design Ideology
Ideology describes the beliefs that influence how you develop learning curriculum. My belief is that students are unique. A good curriculum incorporates both their skils and values into the design of learning. Furthermore, the experience of that leanring, should immerse them into the reality of that subject. Three examples:
- Teaching game design. Students learning game design should feel like they are working in a design studio performing roles that stretch their gifts and abilities.
- Learning foreign languages. A Chinese curriculum should allow students to communicate and interact in a way that mimics real settings and situations in which they would use Chinese. They should chat online, navigate real world places, speak, hear and see chinese.
- Designing games. Video games have curriculums. If we are trying to teach a player how to use a hero's special move, we should give the player a real situation in which he would use the move. And provide a variety of feedback to support different types of learners.
In summary, my curriculum design ideology includes immersive, authentic experiences that prepare learners for real experiences. Learning should mimic real experience.
