Urbz: Sims in the City

I rented this game on urban social climbing from Blockbuster to see what one of the world's most popular simulation brands had to offer. I was surprised at how different from SimCity. I didn't enjoy Simcity because it wasn't immersive and city planning is just not interesting. So I thought a game about social releationships would appeal to my sociologist's heart. Urbz started you off in a way that was compelling because everything combined to keep you in the theme of urban living - cool characters, skateboarding, and funky clothes. The game kept you moving through it's goals. I found balancing the characters need to sleep, bath, and use the bathroom tedious. You really wanted to focus on gameplay, but then I realized that was the gameplay. You earned money by playing these bemani like games where you hit a combination of keys on the screen. What would have made the game more interesting would be if there was more of a story driving the game and the in-game puzzles varied into other genres like matching puzzles and action games.
