My Bio

I'm the co-founder of ExperiencePoint, a global simulation design and development company based in Toronto, Canada. In my role at ExperiencePoint, I've led numerous competitive simulation workshops for senior managers at organizations like the United Nations, CIBC, SAP, Bell Canada, and U.S. Steel. I've also assisted numerous clients with the creation and implementation of highly engaging and effective custom simulation games.

I'm passionate about the intersection of learning and technology specifically, about how “video games” can create superior learning experiences. I've had the good fortune to share my opinions on this subject in The Globe and Mail, Canadian Business and on Toronto’s Citytv. And together with my business partner James Chisholm, I wrote the chapter on experiential exercises for managing change for the “Handbook of Experiential Learning” (Pfeiffer 2007)

My gaming roots stretch all the way back to Atari, where my father as the original VP of Engineering and Operations, ensured access to the hottest titles of the day. Later when I was 10, I proudly built my first game on a RadioShack TRS-80 – a slot machine that bilked my classmates out of their nickels. More sophisticated (and scrupulous!) games would follow when I discovered the Commodore 64.

After successfully pursuing my business degree at Queen's University, I returned to game development with the founding of ExperiencePoint in 1996. In 2006, I decided to enroll in Stanford's Learning, Design and Technology Master's Program. During this period, I had the amazing opportunity to work closely with international industrial design firm, IDEO.

As I look to the future, I'm thrilled by the progress that is being made in the use of video games in learning environments. I'm looking forward to contributing to the next generation of simulation games that deliver unparalleled learning experiences.
