Hannah Cho, Michiko Lynn Powers, Hiroshi Sasaki, and I came together as the "Cool LDT Parent Group," to work on an important final project for Denise Pope's class, Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods. Our goal was to find the strongest curriculum for second-language learners, but instead we found the most effective principles for ELD programs. We were fortunate to work with the Escondido Elementary school on the Stanford Campus to discover the secret weapon of ELD instruction; caring teachers who use proven strategies.
