1. How to hide or turn off the office assistance?

To hide it temporarily: On the Help menu, click Hide the Office Assistant or Show the Office Assistant.

To turn off the Office Assistant while working on a presentation: In the Assistant balloon, click Options. On the Options tab, clear the Use the Office Assistant check box.

2. How to remove the hyperlink?

Right click on the (highlighted) link.Select Hyperlink, remove hyperlink.

3. How to annotate my presentation while I'm talking?

PowerPoint has a pen pointer enables you to do that. Go to Slide Show, Set up Show and change the pen color. Once you're in the presentation, click on the up arrow and choose a pointer.

4. How to make my presentation available on the Internet?

As a STEP student, Stanford has allocated a web space for you under www.stanford.edu/~yourstanfordID. Simply follow the instruction on Setting Up Your Web Space On a Windows Computer.

5. Can I use PowerPoint for something other than a presntation?

Yes, here are some additional uses by teachers and students:

  • Have young writers create storybooks that are illustrated and annotated, where each page contains a "paragraph". Emphasizes the structure of paragraphs and short stories
  • Have students who are new to English create "audio stories" by recording a spoken story onto illustrated pages; go back later and use the notes section of each slide to transcribe (and correct) the spoken story into English
  • For advanced writers, create hyperlinked multi-ending stories
  • Create electronic Science LabBook entries that can be shared on the web (Picture, plus bulleted highlights, plus detailed notes in the notes section)
  • Create games, such as Math Jeopardy
